Human rights activist for refugee women in Australia and Africa, Mariam fled the Somali in 1991 to Australia via Kenya, arriving in 1998. In 2012, she launched her autobiography, A Resilient Life and cofounded RAW (Resilient Aspiring Women), a not-for-profit organisation focusing on better social environments for women.Mariam has an Ambassador of Peace Award from the Universal Peace Federation and is an Ambassador for the Melbourne based Human Rights and Arts Film Festival.
